In June 2024, Trekking Trail Nepal and Wild-Loggers set off on an unforgettable 15-day overland journey, driving from India to Tibet by road, crossing the vibrant landscapes of Nepal, and venturing deep into the remote highlands of the Tibetan Plateau. What made this India-to-Tibet by-road trip extraordinary was not just the altitude or the distance; it was the experience of doing it all in a 12-jeep convoy, powered by friendship, fuel, and the thrill of the unknown with unique language, system, cuisine, and regulations. Our self-drive expedition began in Gorakhpur, India, where we entered Nepal via the Sonauli border. Check all details of the India-Nepal-Tibet self-drive tour package.
Continuing our journey through Chitwan National Park and onward to the culturally rich capital of Kathmandu. After paying homage at Pashupatinath Temple and Boudhanath Stupa, including the nightlife of Thamel, we steered toward the dramatic Rasuwa-Kyirong border, the official gateway into Tibet.
Once inside Tibet, our road trip became otherworldly, from the sacred waters of Yamdrok, Pikchu, and Namtso Lake to the ancient streets of Lhasa. The towering Potala Palace, spiritual circuits of Barkhor Street, Jonkhang Temple, and the wind-blasted silence of Everest Base Camp (North Face). We returned through the same route, closing the loop at Gyiriong, before crossing back into India. Organized seamlessly by Trekking Trail Nepal and led by Mr. Aparr, this was more than a cross-border self-drive trip; it was a soul-level adventure.
This blog captures the essence of our India–Nepal–Tibet road trip, the Road to Lhasa self-drive expedition, through images that speak louder than words.
