About Tilicho Lake Throng La Pass Trekking

This Tilicho Lake Throng La Pass trekking also known as the "Round Annapurna Trekking". This is an outstanding Annapurna circuit trek of the Annapurna massif, cross the Thorong-La Pass 5,416m. Also, a feature on this trek is Tilicho Lake, the highest lake in the world. It lies at 4,949m in the Manang district Annapurna Himalayan range.Since These Lakes like Tilicho situated about 5000 m, in the lap of Himalayas in the extreme location, surrounding rough terrain, and take a long time and preparation only a few extreme travelers and trekkers chose this Tilicho Lake Throng La Pass Trekking. But with Trekking Trail Nepal you can fulfill your dream to be in Tilicho Lake with Throng La Pass or Mesokonta La Pass.

Tilicho Lake Throng-La Pass Trekking Trail

Tilicho Lake Throng-Lo Pass trekking starts from Besisahar, which goes along the Marshyangdi River, with great views of Manaslu and Himal Chuli to the east. This magnificent trail leads you to fine villages inhabited by different ethnic groups, offering spectacular and magnificent views of the white Himalayas.

We have modified this route as it is basically the same as the Annapurna Circuit trek, so from Manang instead of taking the valley north to Tanki Manang and Yak Kharka this route goes to the main valley to the west passes through the Khanshar Village (The Last Village of Nepal) and trek up to Tilicho Lake. We then travel to Yak Kharka and up to the pass of Thorang-La at 5,416m. From Thorang-La, the route leads down to Muktinath and on to Jomsom from where a twenty-minute scenic flight takes you to the Pokhara.

Mountain lakes are known to geographers as tarns if they are caused by glacial activity. Tarns are found mostly in the upper reaches of the Himalaya, above 5,500 meters. Due to the extremely inhospitable surrounding terrain and the difficulties associated with reaching the area, this lake is rarely visited by outsiders.

Trip Note

Trekking Trail Nepal's Tilicho Lake Trekking Note

  • Tillicho Lake was also the site of one of the highest ever altitude scuba dives. A Russian diving team consisting of Andrei Andryushin, Denis Bakin, and Maxim Gresko conducted a scuba dive in the lake in 2000.
  • Trekkers attempting the Annapurna Circuit Trail usually cross the watershed between Manang and Kali Kandaki valleys over the 5,416m Thorong-La pass. The alternate route skirting Tilicho Lake from the north has been gaining popularity. This route is more demanding and requires at least one night of camping.
  • New lodges have been built between Manang and the lake, but there are no tea houses or lodges past the Tilicho Base Camp lodge some kilometers east of the lake and the next village of Thini Gaon in the Kali Gandaki valley. Most groups spend two nights between these places.
  • There are two passes leading to Thini Gaon and Jomsom; Mesokanto La and Tilicho North pass known also as Tilicho Tourist pass. These routes via Tilicho Lake are more often closed by snow than the higher Thorong-La.
  • All days are scheduled as the classical trekkers, so all Itinerary is adjustable to fit your need and wish.
