One of the most COVID-19 affected sectors of Nepal is Travel and Tourism. It has stopped the arrival of tourists since April 2020. Since the lockdown started around April, it affected the movement of people. Consequently, the number of internal tourists traveling dropped to zero. International tourists did not travel during the time. Moreover, we are at the second COVID wave now. There have been various travel safety protocols for COVID-19 in Nepal.

Provisions regarding Nepal VISA Services Resumption

The Department Of Migrations published a notice on 19th May 2021. According to the statement, they suspended all the regular visa services. It was to minimize the surgical spread of COVID-19. A small change came in the modality of lockdown, which results in the resumption of international and domestic flights. Also, The Department of Immigration has resumed all the visa services from 2nd July 2021. Everyone should follow the rules and regulations below.

  • There will be no visa charges for foreigners with a valid visa to Nepal until 28th April 2021. It is also applicable for those who are departing from Nepal within 8th July 2021.
  • There will be no visa charges for foreigners having a valid visa in Nepal strong until 28th April 2021. If you are applying for visa renewal within 8th July 2021, there will be no visa charges.
  • The 150 days restriction stay limit in tourist visas can have an extension up to 210 days.
  • There will be regular fee charges for foreigners departing from Nepal. It is also applicable for those applying for visa regulation after 8th July 2021.

Nepali and foreign nationals coming from abroad should follow the rules and regulations as follows:

  • Airline passengers should have the COVID-19 Negative Validation Report with a photo or a Barcode within 72 hours. And the airline passengers should stay in a 10-days hotel quarantine.
  • After the 10-days hotel quarantine, a PCR Test is mandatory. Those who test positive are transferred to isolation centers and hospitals as directed by CCMC.
  • The respective authority should consider informing about everything the tourists intending to visit Nepal.
  • Irrespective of the indication or symptoms of Corona, the passengers need to take
  • COVID Test. Only if the test is negative can they continue to their destination.

The CCMC will take full responsibility for essential activities. It includes undertaking the transfer of airline passengers from airports to hotel quarantines. Moreover, it provides for the treatment of passengers during the hotel quarantine. Nepal Tourism Board has prepared a hotels list for quarantine. NTB organized it in coordination with the Department Of Tourism.

Passengers above 70 years, children under 5-years, and parents having infants must do Antigen Test. A negative test result means staying at a 10-days home quarantine. After that, they are not allowed to leave unless a negative PCR test comes. Meanwhile, if the antigen test results come out positive, shifting to isolation centers and hospitals is imminent.

What Provisions Should Officials and Security Personnel Follow When Coming From Abroad?

Officials from Diplomatic Missions should quarantine for 10-days. The quarantine is managing in the places controlled by the respective authority. After that, they can participate in different activities. However, it is possible on one condition. The condition is that the PCR test is coming out negative.

Government Officials returning from abroad should stay in the home-quarantine for 10-days. It is done with the arrangement of the concerned authorities. Above all, A negative PCR test can only allow them to join their respective workplaces.

Security Personnel returning from abroad can reach their destination for the 10-day quarantine. Moreover, They can only rejoin their work after passing a PCR Test. The respective security body should report everything to the CCMC.

Many organizations are working on the rescuing process of stranded Nepalese. All the people involved in the organizations should have a PCR Test. Above all, Those organizations should take full responsibility for the quarantine.
